This is one of the series that you never saw coming and will keep you rolling on the floor with laughter. In subtle laughter. An absurd comedy that is set in the ruthless and harsh world of cinema.
Starring Pierre Niney, this series is also the reunion for the cult classic comedy series that was released 7 years ago called “Five.” I would also argue that Fiasco could very well be an extension of Niney’s The Book of Solutions.
If you had the misfortune of interacting with me after JIO Mami then one of the movies that I must have ranted about was The Book of Solutions and how beautifully and absurdly meta it was. The series is exactly like that. It is a fake documentary about the production of a film. The characters are both cliches and really random portrayals of people on set. They are so well written that I almost wished that the documentary was real and I could go down the rabbit hole of stalking each actor.
I love that the series is uncomfortable comedy because it makes the characters so interesting. They are all pushing each other’s limits and have so many characteristics that are being twisted around to create awkwardness. The writing mimicks the chaos of a huge set well and especially with the eccentric debut director. The way he projects all his inhibitions and family issues onto the set is one of the finest writing themes ever. I love how scattered the series feels especially with the random scene shifts.
This series is definitely one that I would recommend for unwinding or as a palate cleanser.
